Lead entrance into the bloodstream leads to chronic brain damage. It is more serious in children who ingest paint flakes, chips, or dust found in lead products, leading to learning disabilities due to excesses of lead in the bloodstream. Workers face the same contamination but usually due to exposure via breathing dust from sanding or planning surfaces containing lead-based paints.
