The purpose of evaluating all primary aspects of the home is to know the location and performance of the current thermal envelope and how effectively it can be made better with proper air sealing and insulation measures. The thermal envelope is the fence between conditioned and either unconditioned space or the outdoors. Significantly, the thermal envelope constantly encases the whole house since heat loss is dominated by the sites having the least insulation /air sealing.
The Energy Specialist should identify if insulation is required and it can be done through the Mass Save program as per the actual depths and measurements reasonably collected during the assessment. The customer receives a written proposal to install the suggested insulation measures.
